SpaceBoy is a platforming adventure video game currently in development that explores nostalgia through its minimal visual style and an emotional yearn for gaming's youthful golden era of the 1980's and 1990's.
The methodology is to incorporate nostalgic triggers with retro aesthetics that also caters towards modern ideologies such as graphical capabilities, level design and narrative.
SpaceBoy is my passion project, a game that perfectly captures everything I want to play in a video game - unique visual style, exciting gameplay and rewarding world-building within a strange other-worldly world setting.
The game is inspired by weird and other-worldly games I played growing up - Metroid, Half-Life, Castlevania - with modern hints of inspiration - Limbo, Spelunky, Ori.

concepts & development
Originated from work I created in University, SpaceBoy has seen different iterations and design choices over the years - with modern elements stemming from things I've learned working on other game and illustration projects along the way.
The game's protagonist design has changed from its initial cute but un-polished origin, into a more animated, 3-dimensional-feeling character - this applies also with the game's art, enemies and effects.
The original concept was designed for mobile devices, which then changed to a puzzle-platform adventure game using light and anti-gravity mechanics.
